Going to change that this year, because apparently America's oldest drive-in is not that far from me.

Love the drive–in. At least at my local one, it's always a nice cross section of society. I guess novelty and nostalgia appeal to everybody.

Upgrade your car's sound system if it's not high end.

Drive-ins are awesome. My wife and I can go to the movies at around 8, and our son will just fall asleep in his car seat in the way there. Date/movie night without finding a babysitter!

Ahh the chintzy audio is half the fun! I wish they still had the option of the door hanging speakers. Go to an IMAX theater if you want to be wowed by the A/V.

I've only ever been to one that I can remember. I think I was 5 or 6. I was in the back of 1 of 2 cars; a 1972 Mercury Montego or a '67 Caddy Coupe Deville. I remember the movie because of the sword the main character used.

I have two drive-ins relatively close to me ( about 1.5 hours ). It's usually fun to do on a cool summer night. The ones by me show double features. One of mine has an amazing snack bar. It is run by a family and all the concessions are homemade.

Ooooh! Have fun! There's one a few towns over from me and I love it (though I haven't been in far too long). They screen two different movies a night and if you show up for the early one, then you can stay for the second, too! It's really cool, and even better if you have a decent sound system in your car because the audio is broadcast over an FM station. I hope you enjoy the experience. It's definitely unique. ^_^

Legitimate question: do you have a Tom Servo and Crow to take with you, and if not, why not?

I went to my first drive in this past October. Somewhere about two hours east of LA. Its definitely great to be able to recline your seat, bring your own food without hiding it, and for the double feature it's a damn good deal. Just make sure your battery is not crap and you should probably recharge it between the two movies. I wish there was a better way than FM to transmit the audio, but its definitely the easiest solution.

I like going, but not to movies where I'm going to want good sound. Comedies and some action movies are fine, but big epic movies that deserve the full Dolby treatment just aren't going to get it in my car.
Last time we went I had my Crown Vic. That car was perfect for a drive in.

that's the type of movie I hope they play.

I do have a miniature Crow that came with one of the box sets. I guess I'll have to build a Tom Servo.

I hope they play cheesy movies.

One part V8 engine toy, one part gumball machine, five (?) parts toy battleship, one part plastic mixing bowl, one set ventriloquist dummy hands, two parts slinky, one part toy barrel. As you can see, I have never ever contemplated building a Servo ever.

I had a friend in high school that made a damn near exact one. It was remarkable.
I'll have to make Gizmonic Institute coveralls as well.

There are guides out there in very high detail. Crow is actually a much harder act to follow, because his arms are made from a specific lamp that is stupidly uncommon now - and most heading to eBay/etc. get grabbed by people building Crows. I kind of want to build 1/ea in mega scale for Dragon*Con purposes.
